Handsworth Childrens Centre at Athelstan Primary School
(Working in Partnership with Handsworth Community Nursery)

Childrens Centres are a new way of supporting families with children under 5. They offer a range of services in addition to integrated early education and childcare. These include child and family health, family support and outreach, access to training opportunities and JobCentre Plus and a base for childminders. All Children's Centres are open from 8am to 6pm, 48 weeks per year, so that parents can have flexibility and real choice about how they use childcare. The types of activities you may find in your Childrens Centre include baby and toddler activities, speech and language sessions, child development courses, holiday fun club, play and stay sessions and drop-in sessions by midwives and health visitors

What Services will be available?

A core offer of services will be co-ordinated from the Athelstan Primary School, and in partnership with Handsworth Community Nursery, services will be delivered on site which will include:-

�· Integrated early education and childcare
�· Family support services
�· Family health services
�· Parent involvement
�· Links with Jobcentre Plus
�· Links with the Sheffield Information Link (SIL)
�· Family learning

The Sheffield Stop Smoking Service is in your area! Did you know you can get free advice and support to help you stop smoking? And you can get this support in Handsworth! We have trained advisors ready to provide you with information on nicotine replacement products and other aids to stopping smoking and provide support to you after you have stopped smoking.

You can get support to quit in the following places:

- Handsworth Grange Medical Centre
- Fitzalan Road Medical Centre
- Richmond Medical Centre

(You must be a registered patient with these practices to access support here)

Alternatively, you can always ring the Stop Smoking Service on our freephone number 0800 068 4490 and we will help you to find support that is convenient and local to you.

Woodhouse JFC were established in 1962, we play on Flockton Park in Woodhouse, Sheffield. We have teams from Under 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18s. We encourage boys and girls football teams.

Small Grants for Small Groups
The Council Small Grants Fund is a simple, fast track grant scheme for projects that want to make a difference in their local community. We are keen to fund small voluntary, community and self-help projects run by and for local people.

We fund a wide range of costs and activities. Some frequently requested items are:

Tutor/speaker/entertainer costs
Volunteer expenses (out of pocket fares)
Trips
Equipment and materials
Administration costs
Regular transport costs for disabled members

Honeys Cheer & Dance Team
Honeys Cheer & Dance Team are a community cheerleading team, based in Woodhouse, Sheffled (S13).New sessions start September 13th 2007, open to all ages from 5+. There will also be an adult cheerleading squad too. There is no weight/ability restrictions in our teams, we welcome anyone at any level of fitness.

We compete at National Community level in Manchester each spring, as well as perform at local events. If you want our team to perform at your event, please contact us at honeyscheer@hotmail.co.uk.
