Formed in the 1980’s the Forum engaged in issues that affected the community of Handsworth. The main issues were:
- Loss of our library
- The impact of the new Asda
- The health implications caused by the new Orgreave Opencast operation
Five years ago the Forum was reformed with a new Constitution and the status “Company Limited by Guarantee”.
The Forum is now a registered charity and receives funding to employ one full time Development worker and one part-time Project Support Worker. The sub-management committee are addressing many issues, both beneficial and detrimental that can affect our community. Such as:
- Health
- Traffic issues
- Youth Issues
- Handsworth Recreation Ground
- Industrial Developments
- Welfare of and provision for our elderly and disabled people
- Welfare of and provision for special needs children
- Social events
- Learning and skills training
- Employment
We are grateful to our members who give up their time to volunteer for our projects and support our work.
With reliable funding the HCF can continue to develop. We envisage a larger staff base that will allow us to be ever more ambitious in our community oriented objectives. We extend an invitation to all of you to join in the fun, by becoming an active Forum member. |
